Tonight at 11:30 EDT on Telefutura, Golden Boy's latest Solo Boxeo Tecate goes live from the Sports Center in Fairfield, California, with featherweight Antonio Escalante making his return in the main event.
Escalante (24-3, 15 KO) had an eventful 2010. First, he brawled with Mickey Roman in a Fight of the Year candidate on Friday Night Fights last February, and in September he was brutally knocked out in the third round by Daniel Ponce de Leon on the Mosley-Mora undercard. Like I said the other day, I really like Escalante but see him as someone who will never quite get over the top of the hill, because he has a penchant for making fights harder than they need to be, and though Ponce de Leon is in fact a good fighter, he just completely outclassed and dominated Escalante to a stunning degree. It was a real eye-opener.
Escalante faces Alejandro Perez (14-2-1, 9 KO). Perez hasn't fought since November 2009, when he lost to Rico Ramos.
The co-feature has hometown boy Manuel Avila (2-0, 1 KO) in a super bantamweight fight.
