Tonight at 10:30pm EST, HBO goes live from the Honda Center in Anahem with a junior middleweight main event. 20-year-old prospect/contender Saul Alvarez battles Matthew Hatton, who has held the European welterweight title for a year, in a 12-round showdown. Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO) is the heavy favorite, but missed the 150-pound catchweight yesterday and had to pay Hatton (41-4-2, 16 KO) a $70,000 fine.
In the co-feature, featherweight Daniel Ponce de Leon and lightweight Adrien Broner meet in a very interesting fight in the division between their regular classes at 130 pounds. Ponce de Leon (41-2, 34 KO) may find himself in trouble if his power doesn't come up to the new weight class, as the young Broner (19-0, 16 KO) will have a sizable speed advantage. Ponce de Leon crushed Antonio Escalante in his last outing, while this is a big step up in competition for Broner, the 21-year-old Cincinnati prospect.
Our full preview can be read here. I won't be in for tonight's fights, but others from our staff will be, so you'll still have somewhere to go to share your thoughts and nonsense. Enjoy!
