Mid-Week Boxing Results: Poonsawat, Rachman Win in Thailand

Bangkok, Thailand

  • Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym TD-6 Eric Barcelona: Poonsawat (44-2, 30 KO) won on scores of 59-54, 59-54 and 58-55 after an accidental clash of heads opened up a bad cut on Barcelona (51-20-4, 19 KO). It's the third straight win for Poonsawat after his 2010 loss to Ryol Li Lee, and keeps him in contention at 122 pounds.
  • Muhammad Rachman KO-9 Kwanthai Sithmorseng: This one was a minor miracle. Rachman (64-10-5, 33 KO) is a 39-year-old veteran and former titlist who turned pro in 1993. He's incredibly ancient for a strawweight, and was handily losing the fight to Sithmorseng (31-1-1, 17 KO) before a right hook and flurry of nasty punches put the 29-year-old Thai on the canvas. After losses to Florante Condes, Milan Melindo, Oleydong Sithsamerchai and the inexperienced Samartlek Chaiyonggym in recent fights, Rachman seemed like he was all washed up. Now he's back in the race at 105 pounds.
