For those who may have missed either episode of Showtime's "Fight Camp 360°" covering the May 7 fight between Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley, Showtime Sports has uploaded both to YouTube in full, and since we're such nice and friendly gentlemen, we'vedragged them over here so you don't have to go searching and I don't have to hyperlink anything.
So far it appears that critical reception of the series has been mixed. The first episode drew in some who had grown weary of the melodramatically-narrated "HBO 24/7" that has accompanied four of Pacquiao's last five fights and a number of other big-time HBO fights since 2007 (and Calzaghe-Jones, too!). But the second episode drew some flak for being a bit on the dull side. If you've missed either episode, go ahead and judge for yourself, but frankly speaking I'm just not getting that into the series. It's very well put-together, but neither story is fresh and the fighters are both just too damn nice to turn out compelling reality TV. This show needs a Puck or a Snooki or a Mayweather if it's going to get over the hump and become must-see TV. But as far as being informative to the casual or non-fan -- the real target, obviously -- I'm sure this is doing a fine job.
Hey, maybe it's good that it lacks all the drama. Not much about how Pacquiao's camp is so terrible, not much about how Shane Mosley is a washed-up old man, so far no dramatic shots of Vegas neon graveyards. If you were tired of "24/7," then "Fight Camp" just might be what you were looking for.
