Florida rapper Rick Ross will lead Manny Pacquiao to the ring on May 7 to face "Sugar" Shane Mosley, which is a tad bit more interesting than it might seem at first glance.
Those who follow boxing news closely will remember that Ross had a lengthy feud with Pacquiao press rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Mayweather's friend 50 Cent. Is there anything to that? Hey, maybe. Pacquiao and Ross worked together on Nike's "Boom" Campaign, and Pacquiao associate and training assistant Buboy Fernandez is a big supporter of Ross' Maybach Music Group.
Several fighters over the years have had rappers bring them to the ring with performances. Roy Jones Jr. has used Method Man and Redman, Cory Spinks has used Nelly, Mike Tyson used 2Pac, Naseem Hamed used Puff Daddy, and so on. Some rappers even personalize entrance themes for the fighters they accompany, though generally that's through some nobody rapper, not a major star. No idea if Ross is going to rap about Manny. That'd be kind of funny though.
Shane Mosley should come out with Snoop Dogg. They tweet at each other a lot.
