Video: David Haye Says Wladimir Klitschko Doesn't Like to Fight

Scott Christ is the managing editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2006.

David Haye says in this video from a recent press conference that Wladimir Klitschko "doesn't like to fight," and that he'll force the world heavyweight champion into that sort of bout. He also would favor Lennox Lewis in a dream world matchup with Wladimir, as I think most would.

Haye promises to bring the fight to Klitschko. I know some will argue that he said the same thing before facing Nikolai Valuev, but let me offer this as a possible backing of what Haye's saying.

I don't think Haye respected Valuev's abilities whatsoever. I'm sure he studied tape and noticed that Valuev is not really a boxer, just a huge man. It's not a hard conclusion to arrive at, really. But I'm quite certain that behind the bravado and the notable quotables, David Haye deeply respects that Wladimir Klitschko can box and has massive power in both hands. I'm sure he'll be cautious, but I don't expect him to stand around on the outside against Klitschko the way he did against Valuev. For one thing, that's what everyone does against Wlad, and it doesn't work because Klitschko is thrilled to bits to have opponents do that, and he spends entire fights sticking a jab in their mush in response.

If Haye really believes he has to storm Klitschko, this could be a hell of a fight. And I just get the feeling that he truly does feel that way, and while he might wait to pick his spot to do it, I expect him to at least try it a few times.

Klitschko and Haye finally meet at the Imtech Arena in Hamburg on July 2.
