Andre Ward weighed in at 168 pounds, while opponent Arthur Abraham tipped the scales at 167 pounds at Friday's weigh-in, setting up the Saturday night fight between the two. Ward vs Abraham is a semifinal bout in the ongoing Super Six World Boxing Classic.
But while Ward and Abraham have the far more significant fight tomorrow, a heavyweight who won't be featured on Showtime tomorrow night was the story of the weigh-in. Chris Arreola weighed in at 234 pounds for his fight with Nagy Aguilera. This is Arreola's lowest weight since July 14, 2007, when the Mexican-American brawler came in at 233 pounds to face Derek Berry. Arreola knocked out Berry in 57 seconds.
Since that night against Berry almost four years ago, here are Arreola's weights, in order: 245, 244, 239, 258½, 254, 255, 251, 263, 250½, 256, and 249¾. The last fight came in January, when Arreola knocked out Joey Abell in 2:18. The rededicated Arreola, if he holds up on this path, could be a serious force in the heavyweight division.
Aguilera weighed in at 238 pounds.
