About Last Night...
Friday had good fights all damn day and night long, and if you missed them, sucks to be you.
- On Sky Sports from the UK, Prince Arron claimed the British junior middleweight title with a TKO-12 win over Sam Webb. Arron turned the fight around in the fifth round by flooring Webb with a devastating right. Webb kept hanging in there and had moments the rest of the fight, but starting in the ninth (when he was knocked down again and the call was blown), he was being hurt consistently until the 12th round stoppage.
- Kendall Holt scored the KO of the Night by obliterating Julio Diaz on a left hook in the third round on Friday Night Fights. In the co-feature, Jonathan Gonzalez stayed undefeated with an uneven performance but a dynamite close against Rudy Cisneros. But the best fight of the show was a four-round swing bout war between youngsters Daniel Roman and Alfredo Madrigal.
- ShoBox saw Sharif Bogere escape with an arguable decision over Raymundo Beltran in a rough, chippy, bloody fight, and Seth Mitchell made Evans Quinn quit in the first round.
- On Solo Boxeo Tecate, Michael Perez knocked out Ira Terry in three.
Tonight, Showtime is back at 10 p.m. ET. The replay of last Saturday's snoozer between Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley leads off the broadcast, followed by the Super Six World Boxing Classic semifinal between Andre Ward and Arthur Abraham. We'll have live, round-by-round coverage, of course.
Fight Chatter
- The July 15 Friday Night Fights main event will be Pawel Wolak vs Delvin Rodriguez. This was rumored for a while, but then Wolak entered the discussion to face Paul Williams on HBO on July 9. Williams turned it down. He's so avoided.
- If you missed it, Lucian Bute will be facing Jean Paul Mendy on July 9 in Bucharest. Nobody is excited.
After the jump: Your Song of the Day!
Song of the Day
Louis Prima's classic "Buona Sera." Dig that pop and hiss. Nobody has it uploaded better. Or I didn't feel like looking hard enough. This is currently my "jam," which for you older folks means this is my favorite song right now.
