Chad Dawson Would Rather Face B-Hop
Lyle Fitzsimmons talked to Chad Dawson, and Dawson says that camp is great (they all say that about this point) and he's excited to return to action this Saturday. But the money is that Dawson is, in a roundabout way, rooting for Bernard Hopkins to beat Jean Pascal this Saturday in the main event:
"It’s kind of a hard decision. But I’ve been chasing Bernard for two or three years," Dawson said. "I’d definitely like to avenge my loss, but I think I want the Hopkins fight a little more so.
"He’s tailor-made for me and I’d definitely be the first one to knock him out."
Dawson's bravado is definitely back, as he seems to be all but ignoring the existence of Adrian Diaconu and is more concerned about which main eventer he'd fight next. Dawson has a weird, really inconsistent personality. It's kind of hard to tell if he's going for confident or conceited, aggressive or laid-back. I don't "get" Chad Dawson.
Fight Chatter
- Last week's Friday Night Fights (Kendall Holt vs Julio Diaz) was watched by 347,000 viewers. That is a low number, but it was also head to head with ESPN's coverage of Game 6 of the Thunder-Grizzlies series (4.75 million viewers).
- Kermit Cintron's July 9 comeback on the Rios vs Antillon card looks set, and he'll be facing Carlos Molina with a max weight of 152. Molina beat Allen Conyers on April 29 after drawing Erislandy Lara on March 25. He's sure proving how badly he wants to fight after that two-year layoff.
- Gerry Penalosa says that Michael Farenas (30-3, 26 KO) could be in line for a fight against Yuriorkis Gamboa. Farenas faces Daniel Attah on Saturday.
- Robin Reid will fight on the Brook-N'dou on June 25 against Wayne Reed.
