Robert Morales spoke with Freddie Roach about Manny Pacquiao's November fight with Juan Manuel Marquez, and the star trainer expressed some fear of his fighter's Mexican rival:
"He just might know how to fight Manny Pacquiao. It makes me think, so I know I have my work cut out for me. I have to come up with a great game plan for that fight. It's obviously not an easy fight because, well, I know that he'll come to fight. I would have said that two weeks ago, too, but we were surprised that Shane didn't show up for the first time in his life. That was disappointing, but I don't think that will happen with Marquez. I think he's got a lot of balls."
Does anyone think there's a serious chance of Marquez coasting or running the way Mosley did? Do you think he has that in him? I mean, I don't, but like Roach and most everyone else, I didn't think Shane Mosley had it in him, either. I certainly didn't expect Mosley to beat Pacquiao, but I thought he'd go out on his shield and, you know, try to win for more than three rounds. That didn't happen.
Mosley never showed that lack of fighting spirit before. Even in his dreadful fight with Sergio Mora last year, Mosley tried like hell to make it a fight. Against Pacquiao, he gave up and flat-out ran from Manny.
Still, even with evidence that it can happen with a very tough, very proud fighter like Mosley, I don't think Marquez could bring himself to that. He might go down, but he'll go down swinging.
