Showtime Going to the Extreme for Pacquiao vs Mosley With Red Carpet Feature

Scott Christ is the managing editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2006.

Those with the full Showtime package will be treated to extra coverage of the Manny Pacquiao vs Shane Mosley event this Friday and Saturday.

On Friday at 6pm ET, Showtime Extreme will air the weigh-in for the event live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. And on Saturday, the event will have a "Red Carpet" feature starting at 7pm ET, hosted by Mario Lopez and Ines Sainz, which to me sounds like the most horrifying tandem of all time given that I've seen Ines Sainz's painful "interviews" with dumbfounded fighters enough for the rest of my life, and the last time I saw AC Slater hosting a boxing event was his ultra-smiley performance at the Joel Casamayor-Juan Manuel Marquez show in '08.

The Red Carpet show will feature interviews and apparently a couple of undercard fights.

But apart from the hosting choices not being my cup of tea, you really have to hand it to Showtime and CBS here. They are going the extra mile and then some with coverage for this card, and may hopefully be setting a new standard for major event coverage on U.S. TV.

Other programming notes: The final Fight Camp 360 airs at 10pm ET/PT on Showtime on Friday night. CBS will re-air at 2pm ET/11am PT on Saturday.
