Miami-Dade police have released additional information on the Thursday morning arrest of featherweight star Yuriorkis Gamboa on a domestic violence charge. NBC Miami has this:

[Gamboa's wife] Francisco was trying to leave the house because she felt Gamboa was cheating on her, she told police. The couple began to argue, when Francisco told Gamboa that she was taking their young son with her, police said.

That's when Gamboa allegedly grabbed his wife's arm and then the back of her neck to stop her, the arrest report stated. Police said she had several scratches and redness on her arms and neck from the incident.

Gamboa admitted to police he tried to stop his wife from taking their son, and he was arrested.

While I certainly don't want to say something as stupid as, "Oh it's not that bad" -- because domestic violence charges are never "not that bad," really -- it does not appear to be as bad as I think many feared earlier before details were released.

Retraction: Antonio Gonzalez, Gamboa's lawyer, contacted us this evening to make clear that he did not say what he has been quoted as saying -- that was originally reported by the Miami Herald and was an erroneous quote, was picked up by other outlets, and by us. That has since been retracted and edited. The Miami Herald has the actual quote at this time.

Bad Left Hook regrets the error, and apologizes for reprinting the misquote.
