Julio Cesar Chavez Jr spoke with Chris Robinson about his future, and what's on the table for his next fight and beyond. It still appears that Chavez will face Peter Manfredo Jr next on November 19, but after that bigger names could come into play:
"It looks like Manfredo is next and then Rubio, but next year I hope to face Miguel Cotto and Sergio Martinez. Canelo Alvarez is a good fighter and I would like to fight him as well, but Top Rank is my promoter and they will decide when these fights are to be made."
Chavez won the WBC middleweight belt on June 4 against Sebastian Zbik, and proved to be a ratings hit on HBO, drawing 1.5 million viewers to Boxing After Dark in his network debut. The WBC recently stated that Sergio Martinez would get his shot at Chavez after he makes his voluntary defense in November, but it seems like Chavez may have been told differently.
I will say that I like that Chavez isn't doing any sniping at Canelo Alvarez or anyone else, because it's not necessary. He really doesn't need personal grudges to attract viewers, especially to an eventual fight with Alvarez.
