Tonight's edition of Friday Night Fights is live at 9 p.m. EDT on ESPN2, ESPN3.com, ESPN Deportes and yes, on ESPN 3D if you're 3D TV-equipped and have a strong desire to see Mauricio Herrera COMING RIGHT AT YOU, WATCH OUT!
Bad Left Hook will have live coverage of tonight's double-header, and both fights have some promise of at least a good show to watch, which would be a step up for recent weeks of the program, which have been, how shall we put it, f***ing dull.
In the 10-round lightweight main event, John Molina (22-1, 18 KO) returns to the ESPN airwaves against Robert Frankel (28-10-1, 5 KO). Frankel isn't much of a puncher, but he gave David Diaz a tough test in Chicago in January, and Molina generally makes for fun fights. Molina's big moment thus far came last July on Friday Night Fights, when he stopped Hank Lundy in the 11th round with a big rally from behind on the scorecards.
The co-feature is a 10-rounder at junior welterweight. Busted prospect Mike Dallas Jr (17-1-1, 7 KO) looks to get back in the win column as he faces Mauricio Herrera (17-1, 7 KO). Herrera has already upset one apple cart on FNF this year, as he took Ruslan Provodnikov's undefeated record in January. Later that month, Dallas was dominated by Josesito Lopez and knocked out in the seventh round. Herrera is coming in with momentum, but keep in mind that Lopez is no chump and is borderline top ten in the competitive 140-pound division at this point. This is the fight that will tell us something about Dallas, and about Herrera for that matter.
