Bad Left Hook Live Results and Coverage: James Kirkland and Bryan Vera on Solo Boxeo Tecate

Tonight's Solo Boxeo Tecate is live at 11:30 pm EDT on Telefutura, featuring a couple of all-action Texas boys taking to the ring at the Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas.

James Kirkland (27-1, 24 KO) starts his comeback within the comeback tonight against Dennis Sharpe (17-7-3, 4 KO), who is 0-7-2 in his last nine fights and hasn't won a bout since 2004. It's not the most interesting matchup to say the least, and chances are we'll see Kirkland blast through Sharpe quickly, but this is intriguing simply because Kirkland, who returned to the ring this year after a second prison stint, is back at work for the first time since his stunning, three-knockdown TKO loss to Nobuhiro Ishida on April 9. Kirkland was trounced in just 1:52 in that fight, his third in a month's time since returning to the ring, and immediately went to mend fences with old trainer Ann Wolfe after working with Kenny Adams briefly. If Kirkland quickly shrugs off the loss and gets back to business, he could still be back in significant fights by the end of 2011.

In tonight's co-feature main event (I guess), Kirkland sparring partner and former opponent Bryan Vera (18-5, 11 KO) returns against Eloy Suarez (11-11-1, 5 KO). In all candor, this is an exceptionally weak Solo Boxeo in terms of the matchups, but Kirkland and Vera are personal favorites who always fight hard, so we'll be watching and covering the action tonight anyway. Vera's last fight saw him end the push of Sergio Mora once and for all with an upset win on Friday Night Fights back on February 4, and I also feel as a boxing fan who likes watchable fights on TV, I owe him a solid for that.

Join us this evening after Friday Night Fights for this double-header.
