Dan Rafael reports tonight that Joel Casamayor is out of the July 29 Friday Night Fights after a car accident, but that -- for now -- the Lamont Peterson vs Victor Cayo fight is back on, and they'll take Casamayor's place on the card.

Bad news: Casamayor injured in car crash (but OK) & his 7/29 ESPN2 fight off. Good news: Cayo-Peterson back on & replaces him on 7/29 show.less than a minute ago via web Favorite Retweet Reply

Casamayor (38-5-1, 22 KO) is in his twilight years, but was set to face Jorge Luis Teron on the show. The show was originally going to be headlined by Juan Diaz's comeback fight, but Diaz instead decided to retire to focus on his law studies. Diaz's fight was replaced by a light heavyweight fight between Edison Miranda (34-5, 29 KO) and Yordanis Despaigne (8-1, 4 KO).

Don't get your hopes up for Peterson vs Cayo actually happening, since the fight has been a massive headache spanning months at this point. Cayo (26-1, 18 KO) was set to fight Tim Coleman in April on Friday Night Fights, but instead Peterson (28-1-1, 14 KO) decided to take his shot at an eliminator bout, which put him in line to face Cayo instead. Cayo then pulled out of the fight, and Coleman refused to fight Peterson, since Peterson had, in a way, screwed him out of a Friday Night Fights main event.

Peterson vs Cayo was then set for the July 23 HBO show headlined by Amir Khan and Zab Judah, but that fell apart this week. The fight was scheduled for a July 5 purse bid, but now the sides have apparently come to terms.

Got all that?

Best wishes to Casamayor for a quick recovery from any injuries, of course, and hopefully Peterson vs Cayo will actually happen. This is a lot of work for a pretty decent matcup.
