Steve Kim came out of last night's Mayweather vs Ortiz presser with a lot of tidbits, so let's just talk about all of these Golden Boy Promotions developments at once.
MTV Reality Show
The most intriguing news is that Golden Boy is working with MTV Tr3s (MTV3) on a reality show called "Golden Boys" which would feature names like Victor Ortiz and Robert Guerrero. GBP has made a point to target Spanish-language networks in the past, so this would be no real surprise. They know the importance of that market in developing followings for young fighters. Mario Lopez would be an executive producer.
August 27 Boxing After Dark Card
It looks like the August 27 edition of HBO Boxing After Dark will be a triple-header. The main event pits Robert Guerrero and Marcos Maidana in a great 140-pound matchup, and heavyweight prospect Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell will also be part of the action, along with featherweight prospect Gary Russell Jr, both of whom could use a little step up in class. If these fights are televised, then that's good, because B.A.D. should go back to its roots and feature prospects more often. It's cheaper, and usually more fun.
Canelo to Staples Center on 9/17
It looks like Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will be fighting in Los Angeles on September 17, part of the split site PPV with Mayweather vs Ortiz headlining from Vegas. It seems an odd choice to sell a show so relatively close, but I guess it probably makes the lives of the HBO producers a little easier than heading down to Mexico with all the equipment and whatnot. This would also seem to raise the likelihood that Alvarez will face Alfonso Gomez, who is from Los Angeles.
