Rey Colon reports that the proposed November double-header featuring two great rematches is off, but that one of the fights is likely to happen in October.
The double-header was supposed to feature rematches of Orlando Salido vs Juan Manuel Lopez and Jorge Arce vs Wilfredo Vazquez Jr, a couple of excellent fights from April and May that featured Mexican veterans upsetting young Puerto Rican stars. A double-header could have been a huge card in Mexico or Puerto Rico. But Arum says the show is too expensive for the networks, and given some of the major fights happening in the fall, that's understandable.
But the Salido vs Lopez rematch is now being targeted for October. Salido will be facing Mike Oliver on July 23 in Mexico, but will be a very heavy favorite in that fight. Lopez currently has no tune-up fight in play.
Frankly, I think the Arce vs Vazquez rematch definitely should happen, but that it might as well happen on the Pacquiao vs Marquez card on November 12. Their first fight stole the show on Pacquiao's card, and offering the rematch of the one really good fight from that show might help convince a few people who are iffy on ordering another Pacquiao "mismatch" to buy the show.
