The new HBO 24/7 series devoted to the September 17 fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Victor Ortiz debuts tonight at 10 p.m. EDT on HBO, and I think we'll have a live thread tonight for those who are around. I'll be around. I also know that we're going to have Anthony Wilson's recaps of the show, which are awesome and something I'm very much looking forward to having on the site.
But there is another note about 24/7. One of the things they've been hyping up are replays of the show on CNN. That was supposed to begin tonight at midnight, but Dan Rafael says it's a no-go tonight due to coverage of Hurricane Irene:
HBO's 24/7 Mayweather/Ortiz debut is on at 10 pm but the CNN replay at midnight will be re-scheduled due to hurricane coverage. #boxing
Now obviously covering Hurricane Irene is roughly six trillion times more important than a replay of a boxing reality show that was going to play mostly to old men who had fallen asleep in their Barcaloungers, but I never really understood the big deal about getting the show on CNN late at night in the first place. It didn't seem like some big step forward. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, just an idea that won't really do anything notable for promotion or sales of the fight.
