I don't know that it's any indication that the fight will be more competitive than many expect (the overwhelming prediction thus far is a Floyd rout), but Victor Ortiz looks really big, really strong, and in really good shape right now. We're about two weeks out from the fight, and Ortiz has clearly trained like hell, including some interesting cross training. Earlier in August, Ortiz competed in a triathalon, and came in 223rd out of about 1,000 (9th place in the male 20-24 bracket), finishing at a time of 1 hour, 36 minutes, and 56 seconds.
I keep getting this feeling that Victor Ortiz is more ready than any Mayweather opponent has been for a while. He's got the tools physically, and he obviously is willing to put in a lot of work. It's now a question of boxing acumen. We know Floyd Mayweather Jr has it in spades upon spades. Ortiz was good against Andre Berto, but he needs to be more than great against Mayweather.
