Here's promoter Dan Goossen discussing the big opportunity his fighter Josesito Lopez has on Saturday night, kicking off the Mayweather vs Ortiz pay-per-view card against Jessie Vargas:
Goossen: "When you get to this level, I think all fights are big. And here we're fighting an undefeated young man named Jessie Vargas, under the wing of Floyd Mayweather Jr. So you know the fighter is well-respected by Floyd. You know he's gonna be in shape. You know that he wants to see the big-time like he sees from Floyd. So it was one of the reasons why we took this fight. Because Josesito wants the same thing. Josesito's a young, hungry fighter, with the experience and the drive now, to, what I believe, he's going to bring home a victory. It's not gonna be easy, but I believe he's gonna impose his will on him."
I've kind of hyped this fight up a little bit since it was announced for the card, because I really like the matchup. Vargas (16-0, 9 KO) is a good prospect ready for a step up, and Lopez (29-3, 17 KO) is that step up. Lopez, now 27, has won seven straight since 2008, including a nice upset win in his last fight against then-unbeaten Mike Dallas Jr on Friday Night Fights on January 28.
I hope this one lives up to my expectations, because if it does, it could be a show-stealer action fight.
