The press tour for the Miguel Cotto vs Antonio Margarito rematch on December 3 (HBO pay-per-view) starts on September 19, and will hit four cities in four days.
Starting in Hato Pey, Puerto Rico, the tour will then move to New York City (Sept. 20), Mexico City (Sept. 21), and Los Angeles (Sept. 22). Tickets will go on sale Sept. 20, and are priced at $600, $400, $200, $100, and $50 for the fight at Madison Square Garden.
Cotto (36-2, 29 KO) and Margarito (38-7, 27 KO) first met in 2008, and it was a fight that changed the careers of both men. Cotto started hot, but in the end was beaten into submission by Margarito. It was one of the best fights of the last decade. Since then, Cotto has moved up to 154 pounds, while Margarito has been best-known for his one-year suspension due to an attempt to load his gloves prior to the fight against Shane Mosley in January 2009. Mosley delivered a huge beating to Margarito in that fight, and since that night Margarito has only fought twice, and just once in a notable fight, where Manny Pacquiao gave him an even worse thrashing.
Cotto vs Margarito II will face the same backlash that Margarito's fight with Pacquiao did. There will be people who firmly believe that Margarito should not be allowed to fight, period. How well the fight does at this point is kind of a mystery. On paper, the Puerto Rican vs Mexican rivalry should sell itself with these two, but Margarito has a lot of detractors.
