Tonight at 10:30 p.m. EDT, Marcos Maidana will face Petr Petrov in a tune-up fight from Argentina, and Bad Left Hook will be here with live results and round-by-round coverage.

Maidana (30-2, 27 KO) is taking this stay-busy fight after his scheduled August 27 HBO date with Robert Guerrero fell through due to an injury to Guerrero. The 28-year-old Maidana has said he'd like to fight again before the year is out, but may not land a major fight. It's possible that in 2012, he will rematch Erik Morales, who wants the fight in March, and a rematch with Victor Ortiz may not be entirely out of the question at this point either, even if it's unlikely.

Petrov (29-2-2, 13 KO) is the obvious and very large underdog this evening. The 5'7", 28-year-old Russian is based in Spain, and most of his career has been fought at undocumented weights. He did fight for a minor super featherweight belt back in 2007, drawing Ignacio Mendoza, and was then beaten by Vitali Tajbert his next time out. Since then he's gone 13-0, but against weak competition.

Those Maidana fanatics out there will surely be happy with the chance to catch the fight this evening, but this is merely a tune-up, so don't expect much of a competitive bout.
