If you're watching tonight's Green Bay Packers vs New Orleans Saints NFL kickoff game on NBC, you might have seen young boxer Mike Lee featured in a Subway commercial near the end of the first half.
Yes, Mike Lee.
As others have put it, someone working with Mike Lee is some kind of genius. How Lee, a professional novice at 6-0 (4 KO) with no notable fights to his credit, lands a Subway endorsement is truly puzzling. I don't mean that to sound bad, really, but it's sort of like a sixth round NFL draft pick getting a noteworthy endorsement deal before he even steps onto an NFL practice field.
Lee, a Notre Dame graduate, is a nice guy and has received some serious hype from Top Rank, but I've yet to see any analysts truly impressed by his in-ring ability thus far, and I just don't see him becoming a true star fighter. This is a bizarre happening, but really, congratulations to Mike Lee, and to his team for putting this together.
Lee fights next, returning to the Notre Dame campus at the Joyce Center on September 16.
