Price vs McDermott: Pre-Fight Interview with David Price (Video)

Q: How much do you actually know about John?

Price: I know enough about John to go into the fight knowing what to expect. We've shared a bit of sparring together in the past. So he knows about me and I know about him. It should make things interesting.

Q: Do you think that will make the fight any easier for you?

Price: Probably not, no, because, you know, any benefit I've got, he'll have the same benefit, so it'll just be canceled out. But I am expecting a tough fight.

Q: Have you changed anything training for this fight?

Price: None at all. Obviously it's a 12-round fight, it's my first 12-round fight, so we just have to do that little bit extra, and put a bit more effort in in the gym. But as far as doing the same things in the gym, everything's the same.

Q: You've been doing some sparring with Dereck Chisora.

Price: Yeah, Chisora amongst other people. It's a good mixture of sparring partners -- Danny Price, Danny Hughes. I've had a lot of variety in my sparring, so it's been ideal.

Q: Looking at your career long-term, obviously Frank Maloney took Lennox Lewis through a sizzling career, he's openly admitted he's got the same aspirations for you. Does that give you any more pressure?

Price: No, it doesn't, because I believe in myself, that it's realistic that I can go all the way. Frank, I've heard Frank say this about a few heavyweights, and he'll admit that, but I do believe that he has genuinely got belief in me, because I've got the pedigree to do it, and I'm proving as I go along that I can fight. It doesn't put any pressure on me. I just take it as a compliment.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 12 months time?

Price: 12 months time, hopefully I'd like to be at least fighting for the European title, if not already won the European title. I just want to take each fight as it comes, and fight John McDermott and get him out of the way.

Q: Is there a heavyweight you've got your eye on?

Price: Tyson Fury. That's the fight I want. It's the fight the public wants. Everyone wants to see it. And it's probably the fight he wants. But whether it happens or not, we don't know. Because I've got to beat John, and then the fight's got to be made or whatever else, so, we'll just see what happens over the next few months.

Q: So on the 21st, are you going to be looking for the knockout?

Price: Yeah, but I'm not gonna be -- I'm just gonna box patiently. I'm not going looking to knock him out, because I know it's unlikely that it'll happen. ... If an opening should create itself for me, then I'm open to taking it.
