Tonight on WealthTV in the United States and Indigo in Canada, Adonis Stevenson meets Don George in an IBF super middleweight eliminator bout, and David Lemieux looks to get his career back on track on the co-feature.
Stevenson (18-1, 15 KO) and George (23-2-1, 20 KO) are fighting for a shot at the belt currently held by Carl Froch. Born in Haiti, Stevenson is a powerful lefty, and one of Montreal's adopted boxing sons, giving him home field advantge tonight against Chicago's George.
Preview: Stevenson vs George
The traveler needs the win tonight if he's going to become relevant in the super middleweight division. He last fought in August, beating Dionisio Miranda on ESPN2, but before that lost on HBO to Edwin Rodriguez in March. Stevenson has destroyed Jesus Gonzalez (KO-1) and Noe Gonzalez (TKO-2) in 2012.
Middleweight Lemieux (26-2, 25 KO) will face Alvaro Gaona (11-1, 7 KO) in a fight scheduled for 10 rounds. Lemieux was once one of the sport's hottest prospects until he was outfoxed and stopped by Marco Antonio Rubio last year, and then lost his next bout, too, against faded Joachim Alcine. At 23, there's plenty of time for him to get it together.
The night's swing bout will pit 28-year-old light heavyweight Eleider Alvarez (9-0, 5 KO), a Colombian Olympian who now lives in Montreal, against Daniel Regi (15-6, 7 KO).
WealthTV is advertising a 7 pm ET start for the show, but I've got a feeling it's more like 9 pm ET. You can stream the fight live at WealthTV.com, which has a 30-day free trial and then, I was surprised to learn, it's a whopping 99 cents/month of $9.99/year to keep a subscription. Given that the channel is going to be putting on a lot of boxing going forward, it might be worth considering.
