WBA super bantamweight titlist and Cuban amateur legend Guillermo Rigondeaux has signed a new multi-fight contract with Top Rank, following a recent contract extension with manager Gary Hyde.
The deal has been expected to get done since Rigondeaux's September 15 ordeal. He beat Robert Marroquin that night on the Chavez Jr-Martinez pay-per-view, but it was a lot of trouble just to get him on the show, as there were court battles all over, he was pulled from the card at one point, and eventually, everyone got it done and got him back in the ring.
Now, he's expected to return on either December 8, which would put him on the Pacquiao-Marquez IV card, or December 15, which would see him fighting in Miami at Marlins Park on HBO. That card was designed to be headlined by Timothy Bradley, but Bradley says he's not sure if he'll fight on that date after all.
Fellow Cuban Yuriorkis Gamboa is also being discussed as a possible feature for both of those dates. If Top Rank doesn't have the Bradley fight, the best they could do in Miami would probably be a Gamboa/Rigondeaux doubleheader.
