Brook vs Saldivia results: Kenny Anderson stops Robin Reid in five to win British title

Kenny Anderson finished Robin Reid in the fifth round to win the vacant British super middleweight title today in Sheffield.

Scotland's Kenny Anderson stopped Robin Reid in the fifth round today after a slow start, knocking down the 41-year-old veteran on an uppercut and then finishing him off with a battering that forced referee Ian John Lewis to call a halt to the bout, giving Anderson the British super middleweight title.

"I'm definitely happy now, definitely smiling. I'm absolutely delighted. It's been a long road," said Anderson after the fight.

Anderson (18-1, 13 KO) has lost only to George Groves, who twice canceled fights with Anderson this year when scheduled. But though Groves vacated instead of giving him a rematch, Anderson plugged on and now has the title he was chasing.

Reid (42-8-1, 29 KO) may have won the first four rounds, but his legs never looked particularly good, and if the Cinderella story weren't developing, it was clear that he was eventually going to find himself in trouble. Reid hasn't fought more than five rounds since 2007, so his small gas tank can't be taken as too much of a surprise. He did better than some may have expected today, but he's a faded fighter who didn't have the ability to go any further than he did. He gave his best effort, though.

Live coverage of Brook vs Saldivia continues, with Jamie McDonnell facing Darwin Zamora next.
