WealthTV has announced that this Saturday night's card featuring heavyweights Franklin Lawrence and Dominick Guinn has been cancelled. The network's next live fight will feature Lucian Bute vs Denis Grachev for the NABF light heavyweight title, scheduled for November 3rd.
WealthTV's Charles Herring had the following to say about the Lawrence-Guinn cancellation:
We're disappointed whenever a boxing card is delayed or postponed. But as is the case with the Lawrence - Guinn fight, sometimes the situation is completely outside of our control. I'm excited to have the Lucian Bute - Denis Grachev fight right in front of us on November 3rd followed by a great card featuring a flyweight unification fight between Brian Viloria and Hernan Marquez on November 17th.
Monday evening Guinn appeared on ATG Radio to talk about the unusual cancellation and is as out of the loop as everyone else. He was fully prepared to fight and was not given a reason for why the fight did not go ahead. The entire card was cancelled and nothing has been rescheduled to his knowledge. Guinn neither having a manager or promoter may have something to do with why he's uninformed, but he should be filled in regardless.
Guinn has been calling for fights with Chris Arreola or the winner of Tomasz Adamek vs Steve Cunningham but realizes that he has to work his way back up the rankings to earn a fight like that. Franklin Lawrence was supposed to be that springboard. Now Guinn will have to look for something else or just get lucky. For follow up news on Guinn get it straight from the horses mouth by following him on twitter via @Dominickguinn.
As for Bute-Grachev, WealthTV will televise nationally on Verizon FiOS TV channel 169 and 669 in HD, AT&T U-Verse TV channels 470 and 1470 in HD, along with over 100 cable systems across the country as well as online viewing, most notably via www.wealthtv.com.
Bute is coming off the only loss of his career against Carl Froch while Grachev is coming off the biggest win of his career against Ismayl Sillakh. Bute's chin had been questioned even before Froch and Grachev, with 8 KOs in his 12 wins, definitely has knockout power. How will coming off such a devastating loss affect Bute mentally and how will moving up to light heavyweight affect him physically? It all makes for an intriguing fight.
