Herrera vs Mayfield results: Karim Mayfield gets past Mauricio Herrera by decision

Karim Mayfield landed the harder blows, and scored a unanimous decision victory over Mauricio Herrera on Boxing After Dark.

Karim Mayfield stayed undefeated tonight with a solid win over Mauricio Herrera at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York, live on HBO Boxing After Dark. Mayfield won a 10-round decision on scores of 96-94, 97-93, and 98-92. BLH scored it 96-94 for Mayfield.

Mayfield (17-0-1, 10 KO) wasn't spectacular, but won the fight by landing harder blows in enough rounds to give him the edge. Herrera (18-3, 7 KO) was competitive throughout, and landed more blows overall according to CompuBox, but there's no question that Mayfield did the more eye-popping work throughout the fight, and that was enough to win the bout.

Mayfield, 31, probably didn't put himself in line for any big fights at 140 pounds, but he stays in the race, while Herrera, 32, takes a step back with his second straight loss.

Really, this wasn't a bad fight -- it was totally fine for the most part. But the venue is deader than dead at this point (Mark Ortega says on Twitter that 30% of the fans in attendance had left part of the way through this fight), and the night's opening TV bout sucked all of the energy out of the room anyway.

Our live coverage continues, with the main event between Thomas Dulorme and Carlos Abregu up next.
