Devon Alexander will make his mandatory IBF welterweight title defense against Kell Brook on January 19, live on Showtime, moving the Danny Garcia-Zab Judah bout to February 9 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Garcia-Judah had been set for January 19, but the New York State Athletic Commission turned down the date, as there's already an event set at the MSG Theater in New York City, with Gennady Golovkin scheduled to return on HBO.
Peter Quillin will still be part of the Garcia-Judah date, with BoxingScene.com reporting that Jermain Taylor has been named as a potential opponent. That's an awful fight that nobody needs to see, really, but that's life, I guess. Taylor was going to get the cash-out eventually.
As for Alexander-Brook, it's a very good fight and was necessary. We're talking about a couple of top ten, arguably top fiv welterweights, and it's a big test for both sides. If both are at their best, I think it's about a 50-50 fight.
