23-year-old Scotty Cardle improved to 8-0 (2 KO) with a somewhat ugly but mostly routine points win over Miguel Aguilar today in Nottingham, winning on a score of 80-70, sweeping every round and benefiting from points deductions.
Cardle, a junior welterweight and former Team Great Britain member as an amateur, was able to outwork and outbox Aguilar (10-5, 5 KO) with relative ease, but the Nicaraguan (now living in Spain) was able to ugly up the fight here and there and keep himself from getting stopped, though he was hurt on a couple of occasions.
Cardle has some promise and potential, but it may be tough to imagine him going further than British title level, or at best, European contention. That said, he's an enjoyable enough fighter to watch, and all of this fight's troubles in that area were a result of Aguilar's tactics.
Our live coverage of the 'True Brit' card continues here, with Tony Bellew facing Roberto Bolonti shortly, followed by Carl Froch vs Yusaf Mack in the main event.
