Nathan Cleverly still doesn't have an opponent for his November 10 fight in Los Angeles at the Staples Center, but he is still confirmed as part of the undercard, and his fight will be televised on Showtime Extreme.
Cleverly (24-0, 11 KO) was set to defend his WBO light heavyweight trinket against Ryan Coyne, a middling challenger if we're being nice, though I suppose better than Cleverly's last foe, Tommy Karpency. It was a fight set up by Frank Warren, as he and Golden Boy Promotions (the show's promoter) continue to work together, and replaced a fight set for Cardiff, where Cleverly would have faced Vyacheslav Uzelkov. There are a million reasons this may have happened, but exposing Cleverly to the U.S. audience certainly isn't a bad one.
Golden Boy matchmaker Eric Gomez says they're working on finalizing an opponent.
Also featured on Showtime Extreme will be 25-year-old Mexican junior welterweight Antonio Orozco (15-0, 11 KO). He'll take on Danny Escobar (8-1, 5 KO) in a 10-round fight. Scheduled for the swing fight is Chris Pearson (5-0, 4 KO), a 21-year-old junior middleweight out of Ohio.
