According to Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times, both Andre Berto and Robert Guerrero will make seven-figure purses for tomorrow night's HBO main event from the Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario, California.
Berto (28-1, 22 KO) has the higher purse, at $1.625 million, while Guerrero (30-1-1, 18 KO) is in at $1 million even. Guerrero is defending his WBC interim welterweight title, while Berto hasn't fought in over a year, but Berto's got Al Haymon in his corner, and that's always good for an extra wad of cash.
It's the first $1 million purse for Guerrero, who has won world titles at featherweight and super featherweight, and interim belts at lightweight and welterweight. I believe this is also a career-high purse for Berto, who has often been on the receiving ends of fan complaints that he has been overpaid due to HBO pushing him so hard and so early in his career.
Tomorrow's fight, though, is one where both guys are taking the risk to earn this money. This is a huge fight for these two, as a win could vault either of them into the big-time fights at 147 (or 154, if Berto wins).
