Tonight at 10:00 pm EST on HBO in the United States and BoxNation in the United Kingdom, Golden Boy Promotions presents a strong doubleheader in the welterweight and junior middleweight divisions.
In the main event, Robert Guerrero (30-1-1, 18 KO) will defend the WBC interim welterweight title against the returning Andre Berto (28-1, 22 KO). Berto hasn't fought since a September 2011 win over Jan Zaveck, and has had some issues this year, first with a biceps injury, and then with a failed VADA test that came back positive for a steroid. Berto received a license to fight in California, anyway, and he's back tonight against Guerrero, who has fought just once at the weight, a gritty win over Selcuk Aydin in July.
It's a fight that has a lot of potential outcomes, and the BLH staff is pretty much split, going 4-3 in favor of Berto in our picks.
In the co-feature, unbeaten Keith Thurman (18-0, 17 KO) takes on dangerous former welterweight titlist Carlos Quintana (29-3, 23 KO) in a 152-pound catchweight fight. Thurman made his HBO debut on the Broner-Escobedo card, and the consensus was that it would be nice to see him back, but against a better class of opponent. That's what we've got tonight. Quintana is no chump, as he proved by decimating Deandre Latimore earlier this year, and his only losses have come to Miguel Cotto, Paul Williams, and Andre Berto. The best fighters he's faced have beaten him (he also beat Williams in their first fight, to be fair), but we don't know yet just how good Thurman may (or may not) be.
BLH will have live coverage of both fights tonight. BoxNation subscribers in the UK can stream the fights at LiveSport.TV.
