Jessie Vargas will now compete in the December 7 main event of Box Azteca on Azteca America, as Diego Magdaleno has been forced to withdraw due to a hand injury, according to Ryan Burton at BoxingScene.com.
Magdaleno (23-0, 7 KO) was set to face Adailton De Jesus at the Texas Station casino in Las Vegas, headlining what was essentially a set-up show for the next night's Pacquiao vs Marquez IV event at the MGM Grand. Vargas (20-0, 9 KO) was tentatively scheduled to fight on the Pacquiao-Marquez undercard, but not on the HBO PPV broadcast. He had no opponent named, so the only thing changing for him is the building and the fact he'll be fighting a day before he was originally scheduled to fight.
There will be three straight nights of televised boxing from Vegas that week, as Raymundo Beltran will face Ji-Hoon Kim on ESPN2 from the Mirage on Thursday, December 6.
Vargas, 23, is 3-0 in 2012. He beat Lanardo Tyner on ShoBox in February, following that with a win over Steve Forbes on the Mayweather-Cotto undercard in May. After that, Vargas left Mayweather Promotions to sign with Top Rank, and made his debut for that company on September 13, beating Aron Martinez.
