Golden Boy Promotions has been talking about bringing boxing back to network TV for a long time now. On December 15, they're going to do it.
IBF bantamweight titlist Leo Santa Cruz will headline a CBS-televised portion of the Amir Khan vs Carlos Molina card from the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, airing live in the afternoon. Khan vs Molina will air on Showtime, and there will also be a Showtime Extreme portion of the undercard.
Santa Cruz (22-0-1, 13 KO) is the headliner of the CBS broadcast, but it will also feature 2012 U.S. Olympians Errol Spence, Marcus Browne, Terrell Gausha, Rau'Shee Warren, Dominic Breazeale, and Jamel Herring, the latter making his pro debut.
Santa Cruz has no opponent named as of yet. He's had a breakout year, with three fights and wins already airing on Showtime, against Vusi Malinga, Eric Morel, and Victor Zaleta. Those fights took place in June, September, and November, and he's only going to have about a month turnaround from Zaleta to this next fight. He also fought in January, beating Alejandro Hernandez.
Main Events will also be airing boxing on network TV the following weekend, as Tomasz Adamek faces Steve Cunningham in a rematch on December 22, live on NBC.
