Alexander vs Brook rescheduled for March 2, January date still on with Matthysse

Devon Alexander will face Kell Brook on March 2, but the Golden Boy and Showtime have moved the rest of the original January 19 bill to January 26.

Lance Pugmire reports that the Devon Alexander vs Kell Brook fight, postponed from January 19 due to an ankle injury suffered by Brook, has been rescheduled for March 2. But the rest of the fighters scheduled for January 19 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles are still booked for that date.

Both cards will air on Showtime.

January 19 will now feature Lucas Matthysse vs Hank Lundy in the main event, with Selcuk Aydin facing Jesus Soto Karass, as well. Golden Boy could put in some prospects for the rest of that show and still have a fine event. The one problem for boxing fans will be that it will go head-to-head with the Top Rank/HBO tripleheader featuring Orlando Salido vs Mikey Garcia, Gennady Golovkin vs Gabriel Rosado, and Rocky Martinez vs Juan Carlos Burgos.

I can't imagine too many diehards choosing to watch SHO over HBO that night, but that's just the way it's going to shake out, and on the night, there should be plenty of action everywhere. Aydin-Soto Karass in particular could be a nasty little fight. Plus, it means those fighters relying on that date will still get paid and all that, which is a good thing.

Edit: According to a report at RingTV.com, the Matthysse-Lundy card will move to January 26, with a venue to be finalized soon. This is good news all around.
