The IBF welterweight title fight between Devon Alexander and Kell Brook might be rescheduled for February 23, with Detroit a new possible destination.
It's a curious choice off-hand, given that Alexander once fought Timothy Bradley in Pontiac, Mich., and drew a rather pitiful crowd to the truly pitiful Silverdome, but this time there would at least be a local fighter of some significance in the co-feature, as Cornelius "K9" Bundrage will be defending his IBF 154-pound belt against Ishe Smith.
No specific venue is mentioned, but there are plenty of mid-sized buildings that could work fairly well in Detroit, at least in theory. Or they could just put it in Ford Field and find out what happens, I guess. AEG owns the Royal Oak Music Theater in Detroit, but that venue is booked for February 23 by Cinematic Titanic, and I don't think Devon Alexander is about to push TV's Frank out of a booked spot anywhere. Ha! Just the idea of it.
