Arthur Abraham had no trouble as expected today in Germany, stopping Mehdi Bouadla in the eighth round to retain his WBO super middleweight title. Fightnews.com has a full recap.
Abraham (36-3, 28 KO) reportedly dominated the fight, and "punished" the overmatched Bouadla (26-5, 11 KO) throughout. Bouadla was stopped on his feet, but reports from Germany were that he clearly didn't have much interest in continuing.
It's been a nice year for Abraham, 32, who has rebounded from a bad run in the Super Six World Boxing Classic to capture a title at 168 pounds and go 4-0 overall on the year, putting himself back in the mix at 168 pounds. No one is going to argue he's on the level of Andre Ward or Carl Froch (who both handily defeated him in the tournament), or Mikkel Kessler, but he's right in the thick of things past that top three in one of boxing's best divisions.
On the undercard, Michael Sprott (37-19, 17 KO) won a 10-round majority decision over heavyweight fairy tale Edmund Gerber (22-1, 14 KO), ending Gerber's undefeated run.
