After suffering a broken jaw in his June upset loss to Josesito Lopez, it looks like Victor Ortiz finally has a targeted return time. Ortiz will likely return to the ring in April or May, and no opponent has been strongly rumored or discussed yet.
Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO) has lost two straight fights dating back to 2011, but remains a fairly hot property simply because he's very exciting, and frankly, he's unpredictable. Ortiz is good enough in terms of talent to hang with just about anyone, but you can never be totally sure what you'll get out of him on fight night. He's a loose cannon in the ring, even though he's all smiles and goofiness outside of the squared circle.
Ortiz will turn 26 on January 31, so there's a lot of career still ahead of him. Golden Boy has plenty of talent at 147 (or even 154) pounds for him to face in the near future, too, including welterweight titlists Devon Alexander (IBF), Paulie Malignaggi (WBA), and Robert Guerrero (interim WBC). They've also got contenders Andre Berto, Marcos Maidana, and Selcuk Aydin at 147, and Berto or Maidana rematches would draw plenty of interest. Ortiz may come back with something of a "soft" touch, or he could jump right back into the fire.
Who would you like to see Ortiz face in his return?
