Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn tweeted this afternoon that welterweight Lee Purdy is out of this Saturday's Sky Sports "Christmas Cracker" bill due to illness. Purdy (19-3-1, 12 KO) was due to face American Carson Jones in the night's main event.
The televised portion of the show was originally due to feature Purdy vs Jones, Darren Barker's comeback against Kerry Hope, and Gavin Rees vs John Murray. Rees vs Murray was canceled last week, leaving only Barker (23-1, 14 KO) vs Hope (18-4, 1 KO) from the original bill.
Two fights will likely be bumped to the Sky broadcast: Erick Ochieng (11-1, 4 KO) will defend the English junior middleweight title against Max Maxwell (16-12-3, 3 KO), and undefeated middleweight prospects John Ryder (12-0, 7 KO) and Eamonn O'Kane (8-0, 3 KO) square off.
Sky will also broadcast Mikkel Kessler's bout with Brian Magee from Denmark, which will serve as the TV main event.
Hearn also says that since Carson Jones is in the UK and has had a ten-week training camp, he's working on getting him a fight for the undercard.
