Devon Alexander and Kell Brook will meet at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on January 19, Ryan Burton reports at BoxingScene.com, with Alexander making the first defense of the IBF welterweight title he won from Randall Bailey on October 20 in Brooklyn.
Brook (29-0, 19 KO) is challenging for his first world title in the fight, and as the IBF mandatory, he refused to meet Alexander in his hometown of St. Louis, where Devon has twice received questionable decision wins, against Lucas Matthysse and Andriy Kotelnik. The request to not fight in St. Louis was reasonable because of that; this wasn't a case of the UK team balking at fighting in the States. There was actual history behind the request.
Alexander (24-1, 13 KO) and his team didn't seem to mind that much, and LA and Vegas were both in the running. Golden Boy, of course, has their most connections in California, so the Nokia -- a small venue for a fight that isn't going to draw a big crowd outside of STL or Sheffield -- fits as well as anything was going to fit.
