Orlando Salido and Mikey Garcia met up last night at the MGM in Las Vegas with Top Rank's Todd duBoef to formally announce their January 19 fight, which will be the main event bout on HBO from The Theater at Madison Square Garden.
Salido and Garcia were originally due to meet on November 10 in Las Vegas, but Salido suffered an injury and postponed the bout. Garcia fought that night, beating Jonathan Barros, to keep his spot in line for the WBO featherweight title shot.
Now, it's good to go, and the undercard has been loaded up, too, with Gennady Golovkin facing Gabriel Rosado in a middleweight title fight, and Rocky Martinez defending his super featherweight belt against Juan Carlos Burgos.
"This is a dangerous title defense," Salido (39-11-2, 27 KO) said. "Garcia is a great fighter who has been on the rise. I'm preparing like never before to win. That's my job."
Garcia (30-0, 26 KO) is getting his first world title shot.
"Salido is a great champion," he said, "but I have my youth, hunger, and my own ability. No doubt it will be a great fight, one that the fans enjoy.'
