Today at 3 pm EST on Sky Sports in the UK, Matchroom Boxing's injury-riddled Christmas Cracker show will be paired with the main event from Herning, Denmark, as Mikkel Kessler faces Brian Magee for the "regular" WBA super middleweight title.
Before the show goes to Denmark, Darren Barker (23-1, 14 KO) will face Kerry Hope (18-4, 1 KO) in a middleweight 12-rounder for a minor IBF title at the Olympia in London as the main event of Matchroom's show.
When this event was first put together, it was to feature a pair of promising action matchups, Lee Purdy vs Carson Jones and Gavin Rees vs John Murray. Both were canceled (due to injury to Purdy and Murray reportedly failing a physical), and we're left now with Barker's ring return, his first fight since an October 2011 loss to Sergio Martinez.
Also from London, middleweight prospects John Ryder (12-0, 7 KO) and Eamonn O'Kane (8-0, 3 KO) will meet in a ten-round bout.
But it's the televised main event from Denmark that deserves the most attention. Kessler (45-2, 34 KO) is looking to gain another major title at super middleweight, which would make him a three-time champion in the division, so long as you're willing to ignore lots of little things, and could put him in line for rematches with either Andre Ward or Carl Froch.
Magee (36-4-1, 25 KO) has recent wins on Danish soil over Mads Larsen and Rudy Markussen, so he's become quite the villain in Denmark, and seems to be relishing the opportunity to be something of a star attraction as the B-side to Kessler on this show.
We'll have live round-by-round coverage of the full show, so join us this afternoon as we kick off an enormous day of boxing coverage!
