Juan Manuel Marquez did it. He finally, finally did it.
In an unbelievable war, with both men touching the canvas, Juan Manuel Marquez knocked Manny Pacquiao out cold on a perfect right hand at the end of the sixth round, finally scoring a first official win over Pacquiao in their fourth fight -- and it may have been the best of their incredible, legendary rivalry.
Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO) knocked Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO) down in the third round on a monster of a right hand, but Pacquiao put Marquez down in the fifth with a left hand. Pacquiao looked very sharp, but so did Marquez.
Then, at the end of the sixth round, Marquez landed a beautiful right hand counter shot. Pacquiao went down, and he did not get up. Pacquiao was out cold, and he was done. It was over.
We saw the Fight of the Year. And the Knockout of the Year. And the rivalry of a lifetime.
I can't even put together the words right now, folks, so forgive me. After the fight, Marquez and Pacquiao shook hands, congratulated one another, and we saw the very best of what this sport has to offer.
If you missed this one, you missed something incredibly special. They don't come better than this. We'll have so much more tomorrow on Pacquiao-Marquez IV. For now, bask in what was a truly wonderful night for the sport of boxing.
