Floyd Mayweather Opponent Update: Miguel Cotto Rumored for Fight

It's going to be an interesting day to follow the news and we're going to keep bringing you any developments as they unfold. As previously discussed, it is believed that Floyd Mayweather will announce his opponent for May 5 at his license hearing with the Nevada State Athletic Commission today.

While Scott has been very on top of the sudden power that Miguel Cotto has in terms of being wanted by both Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, and available for either after his Top Rank contract expired, it looks like Cotto will be cashing in that wanted man status for a shot at Floyd.

I want to reiterate that is a rumor and unconfirmed, but it looks like Mayweather-Cotto on May 5. We'll know when the hearing unfolds.

While many thought it would be Canelo Alvarez, it looks like they went for the hotter item in Cotto and also took away what appeared to be Top Rank's most desired option for Pacquiao's next fight. But, as Iole stressed, this is still only a rumor.

This likely cements Manny taking on Timothy Bradley this summer.
