As was reported earlier in the day, Marcos Maidana requested that the Missouri State Athletic Commission actually do the post-fight drug test with the commission and Devon Alexander's team agreeing to this request. This action was obviously influenced by the events surrounding the Chavez-Rubio fight in Texas. It seems that Missouri doesn't require the most basic of drug tests, a simple urinalysis.
Apparently this basic and sensible action has got Devon all riled up according to Jake Donovan.
I was motivated before, but they've motivated me even more. I'm in tremendous shape. They can speculate all they want - speculation, rumors or whatever. At the end of the day, it just adds motivation. When I first heard the news, when my coach (Kevin Cunningham) first told me, I laughed. My whole career has been clean. Then all of a sudden these accusations (of PED's) - they are ridiculous. I will take any test that they want me to take. I will take it three days before, three days after, whenever they want. I will take any test.
It's ludicrous for someone to even approach me like that, even seeing drugs in the same sentence as Devon Alexander. It (offends me). I don't like to take any drugs of any kind. I can't even take Tylenol PM because it makes me dizzy or woozy. My body is clean, I don't poison it with alcohol, drugs, weed or whatever.
Take the tests or whatever. You still have to get in the ring.
Listen Devon, Maidana is asking you to pee in a cup, not accusing you of being a dirty fighter. He is asking the commission to enforce a rule that should be as standard as ropes around the ring. If you need Marcos Maidana trying to enforce a standard practice in order to motivate yourself, then you got bigger problems. This is the second biggest fight of your career Devon, this silly stuff should not even register on your radar. Do you guys think that this outburst shows that Devon is in a bad place mentally?
