Mexican warrior Jorge Arce is hoping to land a spot on the June 9 undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs Timothy Bradley pay-per-view, following news that he won't be fighting Nonito Donaire next.
Instead, Sal Rodriguez reports, Donaire vs Arce is being targeted for Mexican Independence weekend (September 15 is the Saturday this year) is both continue winning. Donaire will return to the ring on June 16, presumably featured on HBO, but no opponent has been discussed yet. Toshiaki Nishioka and Guillermo Rigondeaux are both possibilities, and either would be a good fight, of course.
But first things first, the 32-year-old Arce (59-6-2, 45 KO) must get past Lorenzo Parra tonight in Mexicali. It's a rematch of the last fight that Arce did not win, as the two went to a controversial draw in September 2010. Most thought Parra deserved the win that night, but he did not get it on Arce's turf in Culiacan.
Arce stole the show last May on the Pacquiao vs Mosley show, upsetting Wilfredo Vazquez Jr in a toe-to-toe war via 12th round stoppage.
Arce vs Parra II will be televised tonight in Mexico by TV Azteca.
