At yesterday's media workout's, Nonito Donaire took some time to have some fun with the members of the media. He played a game called "Guess Who?" where he would impersonate several famous boxers and the media would try to guess who he was trying to impersonate. I'm not going to name all of them here, I'll let you have the experience of trying to figure it out.
I don't know about you guys, but I usually like to see these types of videos. It shows me that Donaire has a personality and has a sense of humor. It is interesting to see how relaxed he seems to be with a giant fight on the horizon. On the other hand, with all of the talk of potential opponents, this might be another piece of evidence suggesting that Donaire is not taking this fight serious. He could be looking past a dangerous opponent in Wilfredo Vasquez Jr, and it could lead to a fairly large upset.
Personally, I'm a huge fan of Nonito Donaire, but I really don't like where he is at mentally this week. Compare his actions and words to another Bay Area talent, Andre Ward. Andre always has a great deal of respect for his opponents and he always has a laser focus. Even Floyd with all of his smack talking, always looks focused on the task at hand.
Donaire looks like he is goofing around and doesn't have a care in the world. Could this just be Donaire's style? Could this show that Donaire is relaxed and ready? Sure, but Donaire has a bit of a history of being disinterested in fights. There were a string of fights where he was toying with his opponents and he tried to fight as a southpaw. He looked absolutely terrible in those fights and it was a far cry from the sensation we saw against Fernando Montiel. So the big question is are we going to get the sensational Donaire or the disinterested Donaire?
